Always in disagreement with NSW figures. Even has different numbers across different data sets and within the same sheets.

Hard to use ABS as a barometer, especially when M&B Reports seem to stay consistent year after year (earlier years’ figures do not get revised in subsequent reports).

So, I find it more reliable to stick with M&B Reports from NSW Governments.

ABS and M&B end up about the same eventually. ABS gets their data from the NSW Government so it’s always going to be about the same. Your table shows 2021 - 99,316. ABS shows 2021 - 99,300. M&B is good as it’s more up-to-date but it’s always missing births because it reports more frequently. I knew that Died Suddenly (and others) that were showing a massive drop in 2021 couldn’t be right because M&B was already showing an uptick. Nothing wrong with M&B but it has its limitations.

You’re right you can’t use the ABS as a barometer because they don’t publish often enough it’s once a year around October for the prior year, but most people’s barometer was predicting a massive decline in births in 2021 which turned out to be wrong.
